چکیده

Abstract Steam-water capillary pressure is often either ignored or determined artificially in geothermal reservoir engineering. However steam-water capillary pressure plays an important role in geothermal reservoir performance and may not be substituted by air-water capillary pressure. To this end, preliminary mathematical models have been developed to calculate drainage and imbibition steam-water capillary pressure respectively. Using these models, steam-water capillary pressure in geothermal reservoirs can be computed once porosity, permeability, and reservoir temperature are known. Experimental data of steam-water capillary pressure measured in Berea sandstone and inferred from adsorption tests in the rock from The Geysers were compared and used to develop the steam-water capillary pressure models in both drainage and imbibition cases.

Characterization of Liquid Bridge in Gas/Oil Gravity Drainage in Fractured Reservoirs

Gravity drainage is the main mechanism which controls the oil recovery from fractured reservoirs in both gas-cap drive and gas injection processes. The liquid bridge formed between two adjacent matrix blocks is responsible for capillary continuity phenomenon. The accurate determination of gas-liquid interface profile of liquid bridge is crucial to predict fracture capillary pressure precisely. ...

Fractal Characterization of The Geysers Rock

Fractures play an important role in steam production from geothermal reservoirs. It has been a challenge for a long time to characterize materials with a high density of fractures such as The Geysers rock. Experimental data showed that the capillary pressure curves of The Geysers rock are very different from that of Berea sandstone. Methods to characterize the difference between the two have be...

A Universal Capillary Pressure Model: Verification and Application

Abstract A universal capillary pressure model developed from fractal modeling of a porous medium was verified using the experimental data of capillary pressure curves of rock samples from The Geysers geothermal field. The capillary pressure curves were measured using a mercury intrusion technique. The results showed that the universal model could represent the capillary pressure curves of The G...

Differences between Steam-water and Air-water Capillary Pressures

Steam-water flow exists in most geothermal reservoirs where steam-water capillary pressure plays an important role in controlling fluid distribution, transfer of liquid between fracture and matrix, well productivity, and even the reserves. However, it is very difficult to measure steam-water capillary pressure due to the phase transformation and the significant mass transfer between the two pha...
